8 September 2021, Rome - Sustainable agri-food systems are a "critical part of the actions and solutions" to the climate crisis, food insecurity and biodiversity loss, which are global crises the world is facing today, Director-General QU Dongyu told Members of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) today.
7 November 2019, Rome – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu said today international co-operation and innovative, climate friendly technologies were critical to address global food loss and waste which totals more than 1.3 billion tonnes a year.
"The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration will help countries race against the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss," said José Graziano da Silva, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
A new government report—1,600 pages, two and a half years of work, hundreds of authors, 13 participating agencies—warns that by the end of the century, unchecked climate change could cause tens of thousands of deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars in losses and damage.
Building resilience to climate change and natural disasters is a long journey that calls for good policies, effective coordination at different levels of government and across sectors, and mobilization of significant financial resources.To limit the consequences of natural disasters, countries around the world adopt policies to reduce private asset losses.
